AHA lodged a formal submission to the Senate Committee examining the proposed National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment Bill 2026 on 29 May 2026. The submission outlines our concerns about how the proposed legislation could affect Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) participants and housing security for people with complex disability support needs.

We support smart NDIS reform for long-term sustainability, but we are concerned that without careful safeguards, some provisions of the Bill could undermine participant choice and the viability of the independent SDA sector. Most importantly, we worry these changes could reverse the progress that has moved disabled Australians out of institutions and into community-based, participant-controlled housing.

If you use the NDIS, we encourage you to read our submission and consider contacting your federal MP or Senator to share your own experience. The Senate Committee is hearing evidence until mid-June. Your voice matters. Parliament needs to hear from people who actually use the NDIS.
